maybe i can get the hubby to upgrade it when my fingers dont look like sausages anymore =) hahahahaha

Re: anyone have their wedding ring cut off?

  • Have you tried soap, butter, oil, etc. to get it off?
  • Loading the player...
  • Windex is what they will try at most jewelry shops....also, try soaking your hands in COLD water.

If all that fails, my mom had to have her ring cut off.  I don't know what the price ended up being but definitely call around and get quotes from different jewelers.

Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

  • woops - i meant is it going to cost me an arm and a leg to have it fixed?! yep - tried saran wrap, windex, finger in ice cold water, olive oil. i should take a picture of how swollen my finger is - its gross!!!
  • Try soaking your hand in ice water with olive oil in it.  I had to to that to get my ring and toe rings off.

It was uncomfortable but better than cutting it off.

  • When I was about 10-12 weeks pg with this baby (I don't remember!) my hands got SO swollen one morning and I freaked out.  My rings had been hard to get off anyway since I had gained weight with Alex but I never felt like it was "stuck" until this particular morning.

I iced it, I tried windex, I tried the string thing (google "getting a ring off a finger" and you'll  get a million different methods), I tried toothpaste.  The darn finger just got more purple and more purple and I just started freaking out and freaking out until I said eff it.  I packed Alex up, went down the street to Station 10 and had the hot fireman cut them off for me.

Seriously, it was the most embarrassing thing EVER.  The firemen were SO nice to me.  Ugh, awful.  I didn't tell anyone about it, but here I am telling it on the nest.  Oh well, whatever, it happened, I have no shame.  Surprise

I have no idea how much it will be to fix but it sucks, it will probably be expensive since it's platinum.  DH said we can just buy a new shank (not sure, but he knows jewelery so whatever) and it shouldn't be a problem.  I don't know.

I did get a pretty good fake cubic zirconia  wrap-around band at Nordie's for $22.  And I also got a HUGE fake pink diamond the other day at the outlets, I must admit as much as I miss my ring I like sporting the faux bling.

Good luck!  And I might delete this later!!!  Ha ha ha ha ha.

  • ohhhhhhhhh i didnt realize firemen could cut it off - i might have to waddle my huge butt down to the firestation and have them do it =) thanks for the idea!!!!!
  • I know you've probably tried everything, but along with the suggestions above, try doing all those things in the early morning and after not eating salt for a while (minimizing swelling). Sorry I can't answer your actual question :(

    Can't CF just forge you a new one????  Hahahaha...sorry, I couldn't resist!

  • You might have already done this, but it's worth a shot in case you hadn't...when trying to remove the ring after whichever technique, do you pull it straight towards the tip of your finger? Apparently that never works when dealing with tight rings. Try twisting it side to side and slowly moving it up while still twisting. It's worked for DH and I in the summer when our fingers puff up in the heat.
