BFing and benadryl
I've got a killer headache thing going on right now (partially stuffy ears, partially because Emmy punched me in the eye yesterday while fighting sleep). I can't take my normal migraine medicine since I'm BFing. While pg I could take benadryl, but while bfing it says it might affect supply. Does that matter with an older nursing babe who eats solids? It will bounce right back, right?
Normally I would just take her to bed and turn all the lights out and let her crawl all over me while I slept it off... but I have class tonight and we are getting time to work on a group project. I really have to go. I just want the benadryl to take the edge off the pounding (and maybe drain some of the crap in my ear) so I don't puke the minute I get in the room with fluorescent lights.

i've taken benadryl and it's been ok.
i think the concern is more with decongestants.

Our pedi said that occasionally it is fine to take benadryl and one time will not affect supply. I have had to take it 3-4 times since S was born and I never noticed a difference.
If you are worried maybe do one extra nursing session today and tomorrow.

she just nurses whenever, it's never consistent enough for me to say she has dropped a session or had an extra one
I think I will take it, I'm worrying too much over nothing.. she's made it this far and is obviously not starving. She'll let me know if she's hungry.
We are the same way with nursing. I always thought we were the nuts who have no real consistency with eating:)

I've taken 1 benadryl maybe 5 times while nursing and I only noticed an issue the last time which was just a few weeks ago and I think it was more the fact that DS is older and doesn't nurse as much, plus I had a killer cold, plus AF was starting. My supply still bounced back with no problem.
That's a long way to say, once with an established supply should be no big deal.
