9 Weeks - Babies eating less and sleeping more??

They had been eating 5-6 oz and waking every 3 hours to eat around the clock.

This week, they are eating a bit less 4-5 oz and are starting to sleep through the night and have pushed their daytime waking to every 4 hours or so.

This seems odd to me for some reason. Shouldn't their ozs increase during the day and then they sleep through the night? Instead of going down? They both seem incredibly sleepy and their waketime during the day has gone down to about none (they were staying awake for 30 min or so after their daytime feedings).

Neither one is sick. Hmmm...thoughts?

They are 9 weeks (5 weeks adjusted).

  • I have read that babies need about 24-25 oz a day between 1 month and 6 months. Maybe before they were just going through a growth spurt and this is more normal for them. I'm a first time mom and by boys are younger than your babies, so this is just a thought.

  • 5-6oz does sound like alot and 4-5 sounds more in line.  When I make pumped bottles, my babies are drinking 4 oz on a regular basis (7 times a day) and if they STTN, I feed them 6 times and then they will drink a 6 oz bottle here and there.  But it always evens out to around 25-30 oz and the babies are 10 and 11 pounds.

As long as they are getting enough food for their weight, seem content and having dirty/wet diapers, Id say they are just getting themselves into a routine.  And it sounds like a good routine!
