Two Under 2

bumbo in the tub :)

Just wanted to say thanks to whoever it was who said they use the bumbo seat in the bath.  My Dh works alot at night and bathtime has been crazy.  The bumbo seat n the tub for my little one worked so well tonight and my oldest got a kick out of it and the seat didn't invade her space.  So whoever you are, THANKS.  Great idea :)

Re: bumbo in the tub :)

  • Does it stay down though... .I seem to remember it floating.
  • I wouldn't do it. Then again lots of people put the bumbo on the kitchen counter/table too even though it clearly says not to use on elevated surfaces.

just curious - if you are sitting right there with your child in the tub, why would you not use it? (i mean, i get the whole not leaving your child on the kitchen counter unattended and all...)

  • You are never away from your NEWBORN in the tub anyway, but for positioning sake while bathing two at the same time, I can see how it could be useful.

It was me. I do it every night. It makes my life so much easier. I put DS2 in the Bumbo and DS1 sits in the tub and works out great, they love it. I have been doing it since DS2 was 3 months old. The bumbo isnt meant to be used in the tub, but I never leave the side of the tub while they are in there. I wouldnt leave the tub if they were in the bumbo or if they were sitting on thier own, so I dont see the problem here. Leaving them unattended in the tub, or on a countertop...I can see issues with that.

Yeah, it floats if you put a lot of water in the tub. But if the water isnt too high it works fine.

  • i read that you should not use it in water - i don't remember the details but it had something to do with the foam it's made of and how it can develop mold if submerged in water.
  • Isnt your little one too little for the bumbo.  I only put my little ones when they were more like 3 or 4 months old.

What I did was put the little tub inside the big tub.  There DS#2 laid and DD #1 was around.  It worked great.  Now, DS#2 is big enough that they are just both in the big tub.

  • I tried it once with DS but the only area I really want to wash is not reachable in the bumbo. So I don't think it's helpful at all!

I put some soap and warm water into the seat, so he is soaking the whole time. But I also clean there as well before he gets out.

  • I didn't realize this was going to be a hot topic, just wanted to give thanks to Mr. and Mrs. S for the good tip.  And yes as per the instructions my DD is too little for it, but as her mommy I feel she is fine to sit in it.  She has good head control for the 5-7 min. she is sitting in it.  I also put soapy water in it and then washed her on the way out.  Like I said with my 2 under 2 it worked great  and made my night a little easier :)

  • Great idea!  I wish I had thought of that when my kids were babies -- I remember my DD slipping and sliding in that tub ring I got her.  The bumbo would have been a better option, I think.  Big Smile
