When to wean sleep sacks?

My DD looks right at me and cries every time I put the sleep sack on. I am sure she is saying she hates it, but I am all about safety. I won't put a blanket, or I'll never sleep, but what about just some fleecy footsie jammies? When do you start that and stop the sleep sacks? She stops crying once it is on, so I don't HAVE to stop but I am just curious.

Re: When to wean sleep sacks?

  • We are still using sleep sacks for naps and night time. DD loves them though and laughs when she gets zipped in. She wears footed pjs underneath, as we keep the house pretty cool (her room is 68 at night and 70 during the day).

Maybe your DD hates them because they are part of going to sleep and she doesn't like that...

  • We stopped once she grew out of them - around 9 mos maybe.  The Carter's are one size 0-9 and then we tried other sleep sacks, but the Carter's fleece footed jammies work just as well.  Our house is at 68 and 66 overnight.
  • We still use one. We have G in a diaper, fleece PJs and then a sleep-sack on top. I'm not ready to give him a blanket unattended yet.
  • We stopped using sleep sacks when M started pulling up to standing & cruising around his crib - I worried that he'd be tripping all over it. I don't recall an exact age, but think somewhere between 9 months and 1 year. At that point we switched to fleece PJs with a cotton onesie underneath, which is still what he wears. At this point, I'd be fine w/giving M a blanket, but he moves around so much he'd never keep it on so it's pointless.

  • We stopped using it when she outgrew them, maybe 9 months?  By then, she was almost walking so it was also becoming a hazard.

  • I actually skipped them all together for Alana.  I went from swaddle to a long-sleeved onesie and some cotton footed pants w/ fleece PJs over.  I don't think the transition should be too tough... as long as she is warm enough.  Sounds like she doesn't want the sleep sack anyway.  :)
  • We stopped using them when he was pulling up to stand in his crib, around 10 months I think.  It was summer at the time and we cut the bottom off a cotton sack and kept him in that for a while longer.  Once it got cooler we started using these footed "sacks".  Surprisingly he doesn't mind putting them on at all.  He wears them over a cotton footed jammie.  We keep our house pretty cool at night, 63 I think, but he stays nice and warm.
  • Jake wasn't a fan of the sleep sack. We moved to fleecy footsie pjs early on. He now wears a set of jammies underneath the fleecies- he runs cold.
  • I think it's more about warmth than having to actually weaning (like swaddling).  I just layer Nate up and he's fine!

  • We still use them, my MIL made some, hehehe, Katie is 22 months!

  • We still use it - Andrew is almost a year.  I don't plan to stop anytime soon.  DS used to cry (I think it was because he KNEW it was bedtime).  He doesn't cry anymore.

  • The girls were those untill they were able to take them off themselves. So a good year! I bet she is crying because she knows its bedtime, not because of the sleep sack itself.
  • It's possible that she cries because it's bedtime or naptime. I thought maybe it was also that she loves to grab her feet now and she can't do it in the sack. It's fine, she sleeps well, just wondering what the next step should be. I think I will wait until she grows out of them, they were costly!!
