Working Moms

just got a bad review

I think I'm going to pursue a career change after lo is born in June.  I got a very mediocre review, and I know that it is partially my fault.  I had a rough time returning to work after lo #1, so I probably did a half a$$ed job as a result, and now it's come to bite me.  Well.....maybe this is my way of needing a change upon maternity leave.  I plan on taking the full fmla period, and while on leave, I'll work on pursuing other endeavors.  I was told that due to me being in this position for a couple of years that more is expected of me.  He is right.  It's not fair to him or me to stay in something where my role is stagnant.  Any one else get an ok-to-poor review?

  • I should get a bad review I slacked off so much after having DS, I got my act together w/ the new year though. Try and hang in there

  • Often it is not the bad review itself that is bad, it is how you react to it. If you show improvement, it will probably be fine. Now the question is, do you WANT to stay in this job? It sounds like you are not happy doing what you are doing and that is the reason you should look for something else, not because of a poor review.

You hit it right on the nose.  Thanks.  I'm a little over this job.  However, the money is awesome.  It is starting to not be of importance though, especially since dh has given me the option of doing something pt or not working at all.
  • Last year right when I returned to work from ML I had to have my review.  I got high marks in all areas except for one.  My manager said that I didn't ask for more work.  What??  I was huge and pregnant and miserable, plus I had plenty of work to keep me more than busy and he expected me to volunteer for every additional project that came up?  I was very annoyed by this but since my company wasn't giving raises last year anyway I didn't fight him too much on it.  I just told him that I didn't agree and left it at that.

  • I haven't had a bad review but I'm totally bored at my current job and want to try to find a new one after #2 is born, too.  I kind of have it made here, though - decent $$, decent hours, decent commute ... it'll be tough to give it up.  But, I feel your pain!  I'm a bit nervous about trying to find a new job in this economy, though.
