The whole thread below confused me. And don't say "one piece," because Clay wears overalls all the time, which are a "one piece" IMO, but I'm getting the idea that it's not the same thing.
I'm gonna say it! It is a one-piece outfit with both a top and bottom, all in one, with snaps in the crotch, usually. I think overalls get their own category and are not considered a romper because with those, doesn't your DS have to weat a shirt or something underneath? Idk, just my thoughts
It's like a onesie with legs. Sorta. The boy ones I've seen just look goofy, IMO.
DD also had some onesies with a skirt that said 'romper' on the tag that she wore her first summer. I thought she was too big for that type last year though (at 1+). It just looked weird with her long legs and walking.
Since you have boys, I'm VERY glad you don't know what they are. They're terrible LOL

Are they like John-Johns? I hate those with a passion, but I think that's more regional. I know they're big on the east coast. Here, you would get the side-eye if you sent a boy older than 12 months out in one of those things, but parents here like to dress their sons like mini versions of their dads.
LOL...thank you. I was just going to show you the first three things that came up on MY search engine when I typed in "romper," and none of them were too child-appropriate in my opinion, either.
I'm betting this outfit, and lots of our outfits, qualify, and I don't care. It's cute.
OK, but, does this qualify? I would put my (younger) son in this without hesitation. I would not put him in the outfits that Lori linked. Are they the same, as in terms of category?

Oh man. No way. People who do dress their kids in those only do so for a wedding or maybe church or a picture, right? Easter maybe also? I put my kid in things that look like a t-shirt with legs, that cannot be in the same category as these stupid "jon-jon" outfits.

To be honest, I have only indulged my Strasburg Children fetish twice when it comes to rompers. Once for his christening outfit and once for...his first Easter, I think? Downside to Strasburg's rompers? Buttons instead of snaps. Putting that on a 10mo was like putting a cat in a thong.

"google" is my friend

Ok....maybe I wouldn't put my child in this....

There is romper hatred in some quarters on here. (Not by me.)
This would be an example.

Oh, dear. Is the Peter Pan collar mandatory?
I like bubbles, which are sometimes called sunsuits or rompers. Whatever, I think they're cute on hot days.

I would call this a romper:

I have a few for the summer for DS and he'll be 18 months. I think he looks adorable in them.

Obviously!

IMO, this is also a romper. FWIW, DS wore them last summer and I loved them. Now, I think he's too big.
Love it or hate it here is DS in a romper that was hand made by my mom. He's too big now- but a baby can rock anything.
This outfit is adorable and in no way, shape or form qualifies as the horribleness in the link Lori posted.
I think the only one the Romper Gestapo would judge you for would be the plaid sunsuit.
I think he's hot in all of them.
Joseph's baptism outfit. Rockin' the Peter Pan collar.
