Family friendly hotel in New Orleans... any recs?

Hey! We are going to NO in a few weeks to go to the aquarium, zoo, etc. Need a recommendation for a good family friendly hotel in the French Quarter (I guess?) where we can just leave the car and walk everywhere. TIA!

Re: Family friendly hotel in New Orleans... any recs?

  • Have you been to NOLA before?

I would not stay in the french quarter. Go a tad further out. We stayed at a BB for a small honeymoon and were really glad we stayed away from the Quarter. We just aren't the touristy type. Not to mention the smell of puke was overwhelming!

We are staying  at Le Pavillon Hotel. It is walking distance to the trolley line and close to places.

  • I would look for something nearer to the French Market area. The Quarter smells like pee and gets a little loud.

look for a hotel on the fringe. transportation is pretty easy around the city.

  • Don't go too far on the fringe, you want to be where there are still lots of people for safety purposes.  The warehouse district - close to Harrah's and Riverwalk - is close enough to the action but away from the smells and sounds of Bourbon St.  Canal Place hotels are probably a good bet as well - I think there are a Hilton and a Westin there. I usually stay with family when I visit so don't know as much about specific hotels.  Have fun!
  • Hey biatch!  We really liked The Roosevelt New Orleans (it's a Waldorf Astoria) subsidiary.  NOT in the Quarter but super easy walking to all of the main attractions.  The room we got was HUGE and had a separate living room with a fold out couch.  Totally enough room for a couple of kids in tow.  The Royal Sonesta is good too.
