If you have moved recently, did you go back and clean the old house?

We are moving next month and we just had our closing moved up on the house we are currently in. We close on our house March 1st and then we have 30 days. We will close on our new house March 15 and get posession on the 22nd. We plan on bringing small stuff over during the week and then having the big move on the 27th & 28th. We need to give the keys to our house on the 30th.

That doesn't leave a lot of time to go through and wash things out. I mentioned this to my SIL and she thought I was crazy for thinking about going back to do a run-through cleaning.

So, do people do this or am I just being weird about thinking of cleaning?

I have always left the place in the condition I found it in or better (depending on the landlord)  I know my dad just sold his house and he had to clean it and have it in more in ready condition.

I would absolutely clean everything top to bottom.  Or I'd hire someone to do it for me.  I know I certainly wouldn't want to purchase a home and have to thoroughly clean it before I could move in.  I'd be embarrassed to leave it anything less than spotless, honestly.

We moved a few times growing up and my mother always went back and scrubbed the house from top to bottom and left it perfect, so I have done the same every time we've moved.  It doesn't take way too long to do, though, if the house is empty.

Okay then. I was pretty certain, that I needed to go clean. Well - if I don't have the time, I will hire the church cleaning lady to do it.

A friend of mine just moved a week ago, and they planned to go back and clean one last time...but the new tenants started moving in a day early (my friends had not completely finished getting their stuff out, and had until the end of the day), and then had the audacity to complain it wasn't clean enough?!  Geez, then wait your turn, people.

I surface clean it. Sweep the floors, wash the tub, clean the kitchen and bathroom, clean the oven if it's gross. I don't scrub from top to bottom.

This.  We hired someone to come and clean the entire house, and it was money very well spent!  I think it's only right to turn over a property to the new occupants in a move-in-ready condition (at least cleanliness-wise).

When we moved into the house we're currently renting it was only "broom swept" and I must admit I didn't appreciate having to clean up other people's dust/dirt before being able to settle in.  Somehow dirt is "ickier" when it's not your own   God bless people who do this for a living - they work hard and certainly earn their money!!!

It's usually part of the contract that the house has to be in reasonably clean and orderly condition.

To me that means no dust bunnies rolling around after you move the furniture, and the kitchen and baths are wiped down well.

I plan to have Merry Maids go in and clean up after us. It's worth the $75 or so.

We moved when I was 7 months pg with ds, so we hired someone to clean both the new house and the old house. Even though our new house looked clean we still wanted it spotless just to make sure. We paid her extra to make sure our new house was pristine - cleaned out fridge, scrubbed everything down.

We're moving soon and have a 2-week overlap between places in order to clean the place we're moving out of before handing over the keys. That way we can move slowly, too...

I haven't moved recently but my DD has (a couple of times).  We always went back and cleaned...fridge, oven, stovetop, bathrooms, mudroom, laundry area, floors, vacuumed carpets (not cleaning them), and wiped down windowsills.  We also filled nail holes (from picture hanging) with spackle...although one time we used white toothpaste (it was handy)...lol  I couldn't imagine not cleaning for the next people.  I'd want to walk into a house that had been cleaned (even though I'd probably clean again...I wouldn't have to SCRUB)  kwim?

Yes, I always have.  I just couldn't imagine leaving it dirty for the new people. When we got to our new house, the old owners told me she had the cleaners come and clean this house which was super nice I thought.
