3.5 weeks before we're supposed to close on our house (and we were about to move it up to next Wednesday!)
We have the closing money, plus some extra money in savings, but there are some things that must be done before we move in, and we really needed the money from our return.

They have to do an "investigation" to make sure we're not lying (verify it's not our account) and then issue a paper check, so at the earliest, it will be 4 weeks before we get the money, most likely longer.
This is the second time something like this has happened (last summer we were getting money from an amendment to an old return, and we never received the paper check. That time it was just annoying, though. This time REALLY sucks.)
Oh no! How did you figure it out? It has to be someone's problem, right? Someone has to fix it for you, and I'd hope it can be done relatively quickly!
ETA: just saw your follow-up. That is terrible! I'm so sorry...maybe your closing costs will be lower than expected? I know when we bought our house they had overestimated our closing costs and they ended up being $2k less than we were planning, so we had extra money for the things we needed.
Years ago my adult DD never recieved her return (paper). She finally called at the end of May. They found it had been cashed (forged) and it took until NOVEMBER to get her another check!
I would think it wouldn't take that long with everything computerized these days. Pretty easy to find out what account it went into and move it. BTW...do you have any closed accounts? Maybe someone else has that number now but IRS still has your info on it?
