Joshua still just takes about 3 naps a day, sometimes 4. he usually spends 30 minutes in his crib before he falls asleep. he likes to "talk" to his stuffed lion, and then he either falls asleep after they "finish talking" or he fusses, and then falls asleep. i think he enjoys his alone time. he is 6 months old and still doesn't usually last for more than 1.5 hours before he needs to go to his crib.
We have been battling with naps for weeks now. DD STTN, but would take a 2-3 very short naps. It was not enough, she was tired, but just would fight it. Now I have made nap time similar to bed time. I put her in her crib, dark room, and talk to her, tell her it it time to rest. She has been better at putting herself to sleep lately, and we are usually getting 1 to 1.5 hr naps 2 times a day. Much improved, but we are still working with it.

At 3-4 months, most babies cannot/should probably not stay awake longer than 1 1/2 hours anyhow. I'd try encouraging baby to rest or nap a bit more. Maybe try things like white noise, blackout shades, etc to try and set a good relaxing sleep environment. DD still takes 3 naps a day and goes down for the night at 6 pm...I cannot keep her up longer!

yes! sometimes six 30 minute naps a day, and I have to work at it to get him down for each - 20 minutes of swaying, bouncing, sometimes shushing in a quiet room. But without the naps, he turns into a fussy, cranky, and eventually crying baby. I have tried to extend the names using different techniques, but they haven't worked.
The past week DD has been awake for 2 hours, but she still only sleeps for 30 mins. The rare nap will be longer, like 45-60 mins. She went from 4-5 naps a day, now down to 3 naps/ day.
My DS sleeps for only 30 minutes at a time. He gets 4-5 naps a day. I usually put him down after 1 - 1 1/4 hours of wakeful. It takes him 15-20 minutes to fall asleep. Therefore he is asleep by 1 1/2 hour mark.
