Anyone having a "meet the baby" shower?

I've been snooping around to find out about my shower(s) and my mom said she hadn't heard anything, unless there was a shower after the baby.  I guess this means I'm having a "meet the baby" shower.  This kind of makes me happy because my BFF can't make it to the shower my SIL is throwing, so having her come after, when she can meet my sweet pea, makes me smile.

Edit:  If you are having one, how soon after LO is born will your shower be?

  • We're not having a regular shower, so if we have anything it will be this. Not sure, but I like the idea!

  • I think we'll try to have a barbeque so various friends and family can meet the baby, when the baby is 5-6 weeks old.  I'll still be pretty anal with the hand santizer and making sure no one holds the baby who has been sick.   Since this is our 2nd, ours won't really be a shower, but more of a party.

  • I think we'll probably have a bbq in August so all of our friends can stop over and meet him...maybe in July, but one of my bff's is getting married in Panama and I know she'd want to be there.
  • We'll probably have a BBQ at our place for family/friends to meet the baby.  We're not looking for gifts or anything though, just a time for people to visit so my house isn't a revolving door.
  • I'll be having two meet the baby showers.  I live 1400 miles away from my family and close friends so about a month after the baby is born, my sister will drive home with me so everyone can meet the baby.  There will be a shower for DH's side and one for my side and friends.

  • We're having 3 showers hosted by family members and friends but haven't decided on the meet the baby shower. DH's brother is getting married a few months after the baby is born; so maybe I don't need to do one for his side--because a lot of the relatives would be there and we plan on bringing the baby. I may do a small one w/ our local friends.

  • Not having a shower because this is our second baby, but we will have a "meet the baby" party after the baby is born. Right now, we're thinking about the 4th of July since family and friends will be in town, but it all depends on when the baby gets here!
  • I'm due June 21nd. I will be having two showers before she comes with each side of our families and I will have one with just my girlfriends on Sept.11th to meet her and have fun with the girls ( she will actually get picked up by DH a few hours after and I will be able to have an evening with just the girls)

  • No, we'll just introduce the baby when people come to visit (or we go to visit).

I have a girlfriend who's MIL is throwing a post-baby shower though.  Baby will be 2 weeks old at that point.
  • With DS, my MIL threw us a shower when he was about 11 weeks old.  She wasn't able to have a shower for us prior to him being born b/c they live 5 hours away and it was the dead of winter.  She didn't want to risk planning a shower and then having horrible weather and us not being able to get there.  The "meet the baby" shower was cool and it was nice that everyone got to meet him.

  • I didn't have a shower before baby and only had a meet the baby shower with Olivia - three weeks after baby came home.   I liked it.  It was fun to show off my baby and I didn't feel weird opening gifts for a baby that wasn't here yet.    That's how things are done here.
  • My MIL is hosting a sip and see for the baby once he/she arrives.

It will most likely be 2.5 months after the baby is born as that is the soonest we are really comfortable traveling 7+ hours away from the house.

It is really for her friends that live in Mississippi to have a chance to meet the baby.

  • We're planning a "meet the family" party late August, early September.  We married the beginning of January and it was a small ceremony and we'd really like to celebrate big with all of the friends and family we can.
  • We are having a meet the baby BBQ. this is our 4th child so it is not a shower but more of  cahnce for people to come over and see us and meet the new LO.
  • I am wanting to do a "meet the baby" open house.  Our house isn't big enough to have everyone there at the same time but I thought it would be great to pick a day and invite everyone to come and go as they please.  Especially since we are team green.  Since I am having a regular shower, I wouldn't want to call it a shower and have people feel expected to bring a gift but I doubt you could stop people from bringing something.  I haven't figured out how it would all work, but my plan is to have things in the works before the baby comes and just have to finish them up once the baby has arrived, finalizing the date and such.

  • My BF was team green so we did this for her. We waited 6 weeks after her DS was born to have the shower. It was fun and she got lots of boy stuff, which she needed!
