Finding a daycare is crazy scary, nervewracking and stressful! Sorry, but it's true! BUT, there are definatly positives to it too. You child will be more social and more well rounded because of it. I worked for a large nationwide chain for a few years and now have a 3 month old son that is in daycare. As far as in-home daycare is concerned, you absolutely want to make sure that the teacher/caregiver has a lesson plan or cirriuclum that they are following, and not just sitting the kids in front of a television. You don't want a babysitter, you want an enviornment where your child can learn and grow. Also, I'd make sure there is an "evacuation plan" in place in case of emergencies. You hate to think about it, but god forbid something happen, will your child and other children present get out safely? What are the polices on administering medication, if nessecary? You'll find if you make a list, and keep adding to it each time you think of ANYTHING (even if it sounds silly to you) you'll feel better when you go to check it out. After all, you're trusting someone with the most precious thing in your life. Ask as many questions as you can and don't be afraid to call them after the fact and ask more Good luck!!!!
