MIL lives across the country but has been visiting monthly now and always stays with us. Last time was a few days but this time it will be a week! It's a non-stop narration to LO all day long I'm not kidding..."oh what's daddy doing? Look at mommy here she comes..oh look at the puppies what are they doing oh daddy's cooking dinner..." she doesn't breath. And she will also do the "oh do you want some wanter?" Me:"NO" her:"Oh mommy says I can't give you any water...mommy says I can't pick you up I'll get in trouble" Seriously? I'm right here. And she offers to put him to bed but after she leaves the room and he cries (and we let him cry for a couple minutes to see if he'll go back to sleep) I am the one who goes in to finish the job. I come home (DH has been home on vacation but has been out running errands bc he can't stand to be with her all day either) and the place is a mess. her response? "Oh honey I wanted to do the dishes but Chris wouldn't tell me how you do them" After borrowing my car for 2 days:"Oh honey I wanted to put gas in there but I couldn't find a gas station". Uh huh...
So today she is watching him bc DH picked up a shift. She made me 15 min late while I explained to ther that yes, I still keep the milk in the fridge and yes, you just heat it up in hot water. Same as it has been all week. Here are the bottles and oh let me get an outfit for him bc I know you can't find his clothes that I keep in his dresser. And she is "scared" to use the booger sucker even though the poor kid has had a really runny snotty nose and will sniff it in and choke on it and start coughing. But she's too scared to help him out. I'm not feeling so confident about this. I want her gone. out. And she is NEVER staying this long again. Ever.
Wow sorry but I do feel a little better. If you made it through that you deserve a prize. MIL said she wanted to get something for you but she didn't know where to look.
Re: MIL vent...she's watching DS today
Ha! This line made me laugh out loud.
I think we have the same MIL. Mine does the narrating too, but it's totally passive aggressive.. "mommy needs to relax" ... "we don't need to force feed you" when I'm trying to get him to concentrate on his bottle, etc. It sucks when they're out of town b/c when they show up, they stay. But I guess its' better than them showing up every night like they would if we were in town. That's what I tell myself anyway. Hang in there
CDH, born 10/26/09.... now I see a family, where there once was none.
Glad you could vent! My MIL and FIL come over once a week to watch my boys while I WFH. My oldest is 2 and they still don''t listen to me. I've tried, DH has tried but they just does their own thing - especially with naps.
At this point, I just grin and bear it - it's only once a week and they adore my boys and I want them to have a close relationship. But I will admit, I tend to dread the day they are here rather than the nanny!
I made it thru, where's my prize?
Man, sorry she is staying that long! I HATE when people do the "baby voice", drives me crazy! Hopefully the week is almost over and you can have a nice deserved break.
DH actually made a rule for any guests to have a 2-3 night MAX stay and he will put them in a hotel if he needs to. He says "next time" he will put this into effect. But her mother lives an hour away and DH's brother is about 35-40 minutes away. Both of them have guest rooms.
