Have you added up the yearly cost of daycare for 2 yet? I like to think of it just on a montly basis, but when I actually look at the number for the whole year???
Hmmm... daycare for 2 for 1 year -or- a brand new BMW X5? Tough call LOL
When I saw the number on our receipt (for taxes) I about crapped my pants. I too was used to just thinking of it weekly, since thats how we pay. But seeing the year end number that included supply fees, registration fees, and tuition for two.
Yeah, we could have a beach house, I think for what we pay!
For us, it's not too bad. We are lucky that we found a great daycare/preschool that isn't terribly expensive. I think I was paying $18k for both kids annually. Now DD is only in for half day of PS and DS for full with no daycare, so that saves us an additional $400/month, which is nice. I've considered an au pair, but our school was still cheaper once you factor in car, insurance, school stipend and the fact that I'd still have to pay for PS.
Ours isn't too bad. Since I work evenings, they will both only be in it part-time. This past year we paid close to $6,000 so I am planning on about $12,000 after dd#2 gets here.
I try not to look at the total number. I see the monthly, and the fact that's more than my mortgage payment is bad enough.
The only thing that makes me feel better is knowing that it won't be that big of a hit one day shuold we decide to send them to private school. And if not, well then bonus $$ for us!
Yeah, it sucks. We pay $579 every two weeks and Claire doesn't even go full-time anymore, she goes to my grandparents' house 2 days/week. We paid over $8K last year and that was with Jack starting in September. This calendar year will be our worst because by September 2011 Claire will be in free UPK preschool, making our bill go down. We just have to survived 2010 The sad thing is that subtracting daycare out of my gross pay, I still make way too much for it to be worth it to not work...plus we couldn't survive on just mh's teacher salary anyway, so it is not even a consideration.
We pay 35K a year for full time 2 kids. Its insane, but in 5 or 6 years all that money will just go into college funds for both kids, savings accounts, vacation funds, ec. That's been our plan for a while. Just need to get to that point when they're both in school!
My tax report for 2009 with 2 in daycare/preschool full time was just under $26,000. Scary!! It will go down a very small amount in the fall when DD#1 starts Pre-K which is $100 less a month and DD#2 will move up to the preschool progam at daycare which is $40 less a week.
