Hey Ladies,
Thanks so much for your responses and advice. DH talked with the head teacher in the older infant room as well as the head teacher in the younger infant room. Both were surprised at what had happened (both were away at that time). They took down notes and apologized. Did not make excuses at all. Asked DH for him to bring this up to the center's director.
He talked with the center's director. The director removed R from the infant classroom due to "not a good fit" outside of this situation and into the oldest class. Addy won't be going to the older classroom anytime soon (even though she is the oldest) since she just started daycare, needs to get acclumated, and is not rolling/crawling yet - so she won't go up to that classroom for visits for sometime. They don't know exactly why she was in that class that day. She said they would changer her diaper more often since she is sensitive (they are on a 1.5 to 2 hour schedule for diaper changes). The center director asked if she could call me....and personally called me to apologize, explain the actions they were taking, and assured us it would not happen again. Their policy is if a teacher is changing a baby, that the other teacher SIT with the rest of the kids until the other teacher returns. She agreed that Addy should not have been in the older classroom as she could be trampled. She also told me about the new teacher they hired with tons of infant experience and asked for feedback. She thanked me for us bringing this to her attention and did not make excuses. Her words were "It is my goal to keep to our commitment of treating your child as if they were our own". I believe her. We chose this daycare center because of that philosophy and that the director knows all the kids by name and walks through all the classes multiple times a day.
She was very proactive. The incident happened Friday. Monday the center was closed for training. Tuesday she called me and R had been moved. Since then Addy's diapers have been checked hourly and noted if dry or wet (and changed). They are great at feeding her and nap times. The past couple days Addy has been super happy during drop offs and pick ups.
I am glad we brought this up to them to correct rather then jumping to a nanny (I had already started looking into them by Friday night!). We like the daycare center for solid hours, background checks, and socialization.
Thanks again!
