What books do you recommend for post-pregnancy through the first few years? My SIL gave me "Your Baby's First Year" and I've heard that "Baby 411" and "Baby Bargains" are both good to have on hand. My mom swears by Dr. Spock. Which ones do you prefer?
Re: Books beyond pregnancy?
what to expect the first year helped me know what was coming and what to look forward to.
Honestly, go with your gut. I read many books and though I did take some ideas from them, I say read the baby not the book. babies need cuddling, stimulation, feeding, sleep, and lots of love. Give your LO that and you should be fine. I think people also have unrealistic expectations of babys and sleep...realize that most babies dont and shouldnt sleep though the night for a while. I hated when people asked me that when our son was only a month or 2 old...if he did he would have been deprived of food since babies need to eat often. It does happen, they do eventually sleep great, I promise
(i know you werent talking about sleeping in particular but I wanted to drop that in there)
just be careful, especially if you plan on BFing. It basically tries to get LO on a schedule early, and if you are nursing you need to nurse on demand or the baby wont get what she needs, and your supply will suffer. Just an FYI
