I need to be sleep trained. Advice

UUGhhh I annoy myself sometimes.  It takes me like 30-45 minutes to fall asleep every time!  My ds wakes up around 5:30 to eat and then goes back to sleep.  He sleeps till about 7:30.  This is fine but I wake up tired still because I've just wasted so much time trying to go to sleep. Also I cannot nap during his little 45 min naps and being pregnant is making me tired!

Do you have any ideas or tips for falling asleep fast?

  • This really isn't heplful, but a beer always makes me sleepy =P

If I have a cool dark room with lots of pillows and comfy blankets, then I'm out in no time. Have you tried soft music? What works for DD seems to work to make me sleepy, too. I often wish for an adult sized swing....

Haha well now the beer is out :-(   I do change rooms to DS room in the morning and the white noise helps a little but I still do a lot of turning and thinking.

  • Meditation is the ONLY thing that works for me any more. It does take a lot of practise, but it's a skill that you'll have for life. I highly recommend it.

Try this: Pay attention to your breath. Don't change the rhythm, just pay attention. Feel it filling your lungs and then feel it as your lungs shrink again. Imagine every breath in being positive energy and every breath out releasing all of your stress and tension. Do this for a few minutes. If your mind wanders or this stops working, think about your toes then work your way up your body. Imagine how tired each body part is and how it NEEDS rest.

I'm at a point now where I breath in and out a few times and relax the muscles in my face then I pass out. I used to suffer from severe insomnia. I once went 8 days on two hours of sleep...total.

    You'll be ok.

Ooh this does sound like a good idea for me-but it also sounds like something you really have to work at. I'm sure it would be worth it though. I'll really try it. Thank you.
