E was invited to her first party with a preschool friend. I am just curious what people spend for gifts. I met the mom once so I don't really "know" them that well.

Party gifts can get cumbersome over time so I usually spend no more than $15 unless it's a close friend, they get a little more.

I just debated this at Toys R Us yesterday! My DD is going to her first "friend" birthday party next week. I barely know them and I'm not all that sure that our DC even play together all that much at school. And when my DD turned 4 we only invited family, so I had no real reference as to how much was average. At any rate, I spent $10. We got her a Melissa & Doug Art Spinner thing. My DD has one and loves it. It's a pretty cool thing and a good deal for $10.

No more than $20 and I try really hard to find some great sales and spend even less. There are months we have parties every single week and it gets to be expensive!
