Pregnant after a Loss

s/o Netti Pots ... I have a ?

I'm not really congested... sometimes I'm runny, sometimes it's a bit of congestion. But either way I have more blood than snot when I blow my nose. It's mainly just annoying but it's not getting any better - just worse.

I'm a little scared of the netti pot but am willing to try it. Anyone think it could help my issue? Where do you buy one? Are they all created equal or is one brand better than another?

In memory of precious Julia, sweet baby James, and now Timmy who fought so hard.

Re: s/o Netti Pots ... I have a ?

  • When I read the directions it could be used for a lot of stuff. Basically it is a sinus rinse and I don't think it will hurt anything. Lately when I blow my nose I had been getting bloody snot but I heard that was normal in pregnancy.

I was scared of the netti pot too. Yesterday was the first time I used it and yes it does feel weird at first but I think it really did help. I found mine at Wal Mart. The one I use looks like a little tea pot. I think that would be the best one because you can control the flow and the rinse really isn't being pushed into your sinuses. Hope that helps, and that you can find some relief!

  • I have constant sinus issues, and the neti pot is a huge help. Just be sure the water is a good, moderate temperature--too hot or cold is uncomfortable and can cause irritation. Using pure water is also better than tap. Also use the saline packets that come with it, don't use table salt. As for the nosebleeds, you will need to see how it affects it. For me it helps, but if I do it more than 3xs a day it can be drying and cause more bleeding; see what works for you. Start with once a day and see how you feel. Some people prefer the basic pot which works on gravity (I use this), others use the squirt bottle style that adds additional pressure to the rinse; with bleeding I might start with the gentler pot just to see if/how it helps. Good luck!

  • I use one of those bulb squirters that you use for babies.  I put salt and baking soda with water because it is a natural anti bacterial solution.  My doctor told me about it.  I pretty much just blast both nostrils and then blow my nose while letting some drip back to my throat and spitting it out.  Sorry if TMI.

I do it almost everyday- I used to get chronic sinus infections and now I hardly get any.  I swear by this!

  • I used the Netti Pot when I had a cold.  It helped then, but I haven't tried it since I got over the cold.  It feels really weird at first, but seems to help clear the sinuses.  I have the Netti Pot brand and bought it at CVS.

  • The only thing I know, is don't use iodized table salt.  If you use salt (when you run out of the saline packets, or if it doesn't come with them), use pure, uniodized, sea salt.  :)
