So, this may be a silly question, but I am planning to breastfeed our baby. I am going to freeze the extra breastmilk so we'll have a continuous supply after I return to work. I was wondering, do I need to get certain bottles if I'm pumping and freezing my milk? A friend gave me a bunch of her leftover baggies for breastmilk. Do those baggies fit certain bottles or do you dump the milk into a regular bottle? ... Obviously I'm brand new to this ...
Re: Question about breastfeeding and bottles
Pump using bottles that fit the pump. Pour that milk into milk storage baggies (try to squeeze as much air out as possible). The baggies easily store flat on top of each other in the freezer, which is very convenient.
When you want to use one, you thaw in the fridge or under warm running water and pour into a bottle for feeding.
Also, since I work, I pumped using my regular pump bottles but poured the milk each time into a large, leak-free bottle. This way I could pump 3-4 times a day with my "pump bottles." The milk I pumped that day was fed to the baby the next day and so forth. My frozen milk supply was only used for emergencies.
Big brother and sister are excited to meet the new baby! It's a GIRL!

we fed the baby with dr browns bottles. my pump was medela, and it took gerber and medela brand bottles that screwed on to the pump parts. i would pump, and put the milk that we'd use in the fridge (in the gerber/medela bottle), and any extra i'd put in a plastic lansinoh bag in the freezer. when it was time to feed the baby, i'd pour the fridge milk into a dr. browns bottle.
the nice thing about BM is it doesn't spoil as fast as formula or regular milk so you can toss your pump parts in the fridge and wash them once a day, instead of after each pumping session. it will help cut down on your dishes and your insanity.
