Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Reflux now?

This seems like a question on 0-3, but at what point did you/pedi decide to put LO on reflux meds?  What were the signs or how bad was the spit up?

The reason I ask is because this past week, DD has been spitting up after almost every bottle.  She hardly spit up at all before this, so I'm a bit concerned since it is so sudden.  She's also not eating quite as much as she had been.

 Thanks for your input Smile

Re: Reflux now?

  • The symptoms were unhappy/noticeably uncomfortable after eating, spitting up.. very hard to burp.?

Lexi was put on zantac at her 1 month appointment, I believe. Yea, not her 2 month, that was just shots. <---lol, thinking out loud there.?

  • Sounds like what we are going through right now. Lily has started becoming very frustrated while eatting, she's hard to burp, will eat for a few seconds and then get mad and quit. I called our pedi and they wanted to start Zantac right away w/o even seeing her. She has done this before and I think it happens when she is going through a growth spurt. It seems to happen for a few days and then go away for awhile. We are going to try rice cereal before meds.
  • We started zantac right after 2 month appt.  DS was waking up crying when he was laid flat and only sleeping if being held/in the swing or carseat.  Spit up occasionally but not often.

Our doctors made it really clear that no reflux medication will improve the spit up situation.  The meds treat the acidity of the stomach and that improves the discomfort the baby is feeling.  They said they do not give meds if spit up (even what we consider profuse amounts) is the only symptom because meds will not make a difference - whereas cereal might make the milk heavier and help it stay in the stomach.
