Haven't you ever heard of those parents who do some kind of insemination and the lab basically manipulates the genes somehow.  I know it has been done when they want a certain sex of baby.

People really do this stuff!   I read something about it years ago and always thought it was a really bad idea.  I would love to have a girl for our next child but would never go this far.  I think if you want a certain sex baby you should adopt!

It is usually used so that genetic illnesses are not passed to the baby, so there is a reason behind it.

Generally if parents want a certain sex they do IVF w/ either PGD or CGH which is genetic testing, not genetic alteration or mutation.  It's done sometimes when there is a serious genetic disease/issue that would only be passed to one sex.

Wow...that's so bizarre. I understand doing this if genetic diseases may be an issue, but doing it solely to have one sex over the other seems a tad extreme. I agree - adopt if you're that bent on the "right" sex of your baby. Tampering with Mother Nature is dangerous business.
