Baby Names

Boy Name

We are considering Braiden as a first name. Both my DH and I really, really love this name. We still have a few others in the running, and I know not all of you are a fan of this particular name because it ends in -aiden, but I wanted to ask you ladies how you would spell this name; how you prefer to see it spelled.

On babynames.com this name comes up as Braden, Braiden, Brayden and Braeden...too many name spellings if you ask me. But I still love the name.

  • I hate this name--- I know sooooooooo many little boys named Brayden that it's just ridiculous.

Well, I pointed out that a lot of you don't like it. But in my defense of this name, I don't know any boys with it.

And I respect that you don't like it! Ethan is in the running as well, but every 2009 name list I look at...it's at the top...

  • As trendy as Braiden is, I would avoid the trendy spelling of Brayden.  I jsut feel that adds to the trendyness of it.

  • Thanks!  We just found out, but I don't think it's two for the price of one.  I am very scared of the high risk factors, and premature birth.  We feel blessed, though.  Good luck with your names!
  • I like this name.  Although on these boards it seems uber-popular, I have only known 2 Bradens (both spelled that way) over the past 6 years.

  • Braeden is the tradition spelling and I really dislike all of the other youneek spellings. Especially Braiden. That's bad. I could get on board with Braden if you wanted to simplify the name a bit but I would choose Braeden 100%.

Well, I just mean 1 pregnancy, 2 babies. Try not to worry about all of the complications (easier said than done). I'm sure your pregnancy will go by quickly, smoothly, and your babies will be perfect!

I think the thing about Ethan though is that it will always be a nice name whereas Braden will scream a certain decade like names like Tiffany.  That being said, I don't like the Braiden spelling because all I see is braid.  I voted for Braden.

  • When I hear this name I think Brayden in my mind so I voted for that.

FWIW I LOVE Ethan! Brayden isn't my cup of tea, but I like it more than a lot of names that are popular on here (Liam, Jackson, Parker etc). Sure it's trendy, but it's not horrific.

  • I know three babies just named Brayden (any spelling) in the last 6 months.

Agree with this.  Don't do a trendy spelling- it's not fair to your kid and it will annoy him for the rest of his life.
