We weren't supposed to go until April 19, but they had a cancellation and we are going tomorrow afternoon. He has terrible mucusy green diarrhea if he or I eat any dairy products. It has taken forever to get this appointment, so in the meantime I've just cut out everything that has any milk ingredient whatsoever. I'm very anxious to talk to a doctor who deals specifically with this kind of thing and see what's going on. He also has asthma and his pulmonologist ordered food allergy blood work, which came back negative...anyone have any experience with this kind of thing?
Re: Taking Jack to an allergist tomorrow for his dairy issues-what to expect?
Hey you!
How are you?! Your kiddos are beautiful, and so big!
Sorry to hear about Jack's issues with dairy. Regina had the same problem. The mucousy green poop, diarrhea, and weight loss from dairy products. Yet, the dairy food allergy panel came back negative. They explained to me that allergies are an immune system problem, and she seemed to have a diary intolerance, which is a digestive system problem.
After that, I didn't seek a further diagnosis, and just stopped giving her dairy. She still can only tolerate milk products in small amounts. For example, I will pull the cheese off of pizza at parties, but it still gives her diarrhea
My baby is the same way, so they are both on soy.
Good luck tomorrow!
Hey REOM! It's been forever
How are you? I'm sad you don't have a sig, I can't see those beautiful girlies! The kids are good...I can't believe Jack is 10 months old today. It has gone so fast. I am so much busier now than I ever dreamed I'd be...hence, no time for nesting!
Yeah, our pulmonologist mentioned that it might just be an intolerance, but the pedi suggested a visit to the allergist anyway. The tiniest amount of dairy sets him into a terrible reaction that lasts for days. It's awful. I don't even eat pizza without the cheese anymore for fear that there might be parmesan or romano in the sauce! Has anyone mentioned anything to you about the possibility of the girls outgrowing it?
Yes, I have heard that they can outgrow it. And Gina has defintely gotten better over the years, but she is still not over it completely. We used to have to watch whey, casein, etc, but now she even has the occasional (cheeseless!) pizza slice or cupcake.
Honestly though, I felt so much better, healthier, when I wasn't eating dairy. In fact, I'm trying to get back to that diet. My pedi isn't concerned, b/c as long as they are eating other foods, dairy isn't really necessary.
I'm way too lazy to figure out the sig thing again!
GL tomorrow
Neither of mine can tolerate dairy as infants. DS (3.5) has mostly outgrown his and had some hot chocolate the other day (made w/milk) and did fine. But just last summer he would get horrible diarrhea from icecream. He also had soy intolerances up until the end of his first year.
DD outgrew her intolerance via my milk @ 9 mos (that plus soy plus eggs). She doesn't sleep well after she has cows milk directly in her diet but OK if I have it. She does fine with cheese, yogurt.
DS' pedi did allergy bloodwork at 12 mos that came back negative but his symptoms said otherwise so I never bothered to see anyone else. I never saw anyone for DD either b/c I suspect it's the same issue (like REOM was saying. An intolerance and not an allergy.). Also like REOM was saying.. being dairy free feels much better to me. I feel lighter and less fuzzy-headed. So I think it's a blessing in disguise.
I hope you get some answers!
