Hi all, this is my first post to this board and have learned a lot from reading other posts, so thanks. I had an Infantino sling when LO was first born and loved it. I pretty much carry her all the time now, but need a carrier so I can get things done, plus she is already 16 lbs and getting to be a chunky monkey. I have done a little research on the Ergo and think that is the way to go. I am pretty tall-5'10 and don't know if that really matters, but wanted some input on the best carrier. Should I go with the Ergo or are there other suggestions out there you recommend? TIA!
I love my Ergo but a lot of it is what you want to do with it and what makes the most sense for you - if I were you, I'd also try seeing if there is a baby-wearing group near you. I went to one after I bought my Ergo and found out about lots of types of carriers that I would never have thought I'd like. Right now I also have a ring sling but don't use it because I am not really good at it but I know lots of folks on the board love woven wraps.
All that being said, I don't think you can go wrong with the Ergo.
There are SO MANY soft structured carriers (similar to the Ergo) out there, that I had no idea about until I went to a local babywearing group meeting. Beco is a popular Ergo alternative, and beyond that there are LOTS of other brands. We personally own an Action Baby Carrier (www.heavenlyhold.com is where we got ours) and it is a lot more comfortable than the Ergo for both me and my husband. Also, I'm in the process of ordering an Olives and Applesauce carrier www.olivesandapplesauce.com for me with a pretty print. It fits differently (and better, for me) than the Ergo or the Action Baby Carrier, but the ABC fits DH great, so that's "his" carrier. My longwinded point? There are a lot of GOOD baby carriers out there. Ergo and Beco are not the only options. If you can try them in person, awesome. If not, check out www.thebabywearer.com and ask for rec's there. The ladies over there are really nice and helpful for finding THE carrier for you! Good luck
