Baby Showers

another question about presents

When I had my bridal shower the gifts were opened later with my then-fiancee. I had always thought that it wasn't appropriate to do it in front of everyone and I figured everyone would be bored watching. Am I wrong? Am I supposed to open the presents at the shower?

Re: another question about presents

  • Yes, you're supposed to open your gifts at the shower.  People like to see THEIR gift opened.

And yes, I personally get bored watching the gift opening, but thats why I sit w/ people I know and we chit chat while the gift openign is going on.  We pay attention, we ooh and ahh, but we also talk to one another.

  • Most people like to see what you got, and your (and other's) reaction to what they got you.  I could care less either way, in terms of attending a shower as a guest and what the honoree wants to do, but a lot of people do expect there to be the ceremonious opening of gifts.

  • Part of the only reason people go to the shower is to see you open their gift.  It's also a nice get together with people they know, but c;mon, do you really think people go to play baby bingo or sniff candy bars in diapers?!?  Not only do people like to see you open their gift, most people like to see you open all your gifts and see what you get!  OPEN THEM!
  • yes, gifts are opened at baby showers
  • Agreed with the others...OPEN YOUR PRESENTS at the shower;) Everyone wants to see the momma to be open gifts so everyone can "ooh" and "ahh"
  • Yes, that is what a shower is for.
  • Bridal showers are different than baby showers. People like to see baby stuff its cute, but really no one cares to see a bunch of home making items. So people do open their gifts at baby showers.
  • I will not be opening gifts at our shower this saturday.  its more of a party.  i will make sure to send very nice thank you notes out to all.

  • Generally, gifts are opened at bridal and baby showers, unless you or the host specifically agree not to do this and spend the time chatting with guests.  For other adult events (birthdays, anniversaries, etc..) or religious events (baptism/christening), presents are not opened in front of guests.
