It needs it. Little spots here and there from DS spilling his water (how it stained, I don't know), and it kind of smells I would guess that's from the dog...anyway, it's gross. The couch is only a year old, so I'd cry if it wasn't salvageable.
I'm afraid to use anything but water and a clean cloth on ours. DD has spilled little spots of milk on it and I use the water to clean it up. I also spray febreeze on it which hasn't caused any problems.
Here is the trick (with ours anyway) if you are going to clean it to remove water marks you need to use alot more water. I use a WET sponge and rub it ALL over the cushion. It works really well to cover up those marks that you KNOW shouldn't stain. My dogs always sleep on the couch, so we do get it cleaned by the steam cleaners every 4 months or so. They do a great job and just use just water and the machine to clean it,
I'll try just using water all over it and see if that works. My MIL has a professional grade carpet/upholstery cleaner with a hose attachment, but I'm kind of afraid to use it. Maybe I'll just call and get it cleaned. It probably isn't as bad as I feel it is...nobody ever seems to notice but me. LOL
I have a spot bot. I should see if that is safe on the back of the couch or something. Hmm.
Re: NTR: How do you clean your microfiber couch?
