Pack n Plays at Childcare and not cribs?

We are interested in this one daycare that parents seemed happy with that is near my parents (and not out of the way for us on the way to work).

We met with the director, they have top knotch security clean atmosphere, great child/caregiver ratio but instead of cribs the children nap in Graco pack n plays.  Is this weird? They are very clean and all the same type of PNP (they are more like the pen-type of PNP rather than the expensive ones with bassinetts you purchase in the BRU)

Just wondering what the norm is. My SIL said that's a space saver for them, but is it safe? I figure its only for naps, not that she is sleeping in that for 8 hours!

Thanks!

  • I would not have a problem with it as long as they had safety inspections and they were fine.

  • Seems fine to me and good for LO to sleep in a different environment, encouraging flexibility (if you ever go out of town).
  • The part time daycare we took the boys too last semester had pnps. For them it was definately a space saver. Except for the small babies, the rest of the kids napped at the same time, so they only put them up at nap time.

  • I don't see an issue, they are usually moved to mats on the floor around age 1 anyway.
  • I'm wondering why you think they wouldn't be safe?

  • If they've passed their inspections, then you should feel completely confident.  (FWIW, I've never seen that before either and would probably wonder too...)
  • Ours does it because they are easier to move in case the LO's start waking each other up.
  • In Virginia, licensed providers are not allowed to use pack n plays.  All babies under one year have to be provided a crib.  But, if that is not the case in your state I guess I wouldn't worry about it.

  • DS is at an in-home daycare and naps in a pnp every day.  I don't see any problem with it.
