Babies: 9 - 12 Months

teething or a cold?

L is teething his first tooth broke thru yesterday and it still has a ways to go before its all the way out. He will not sleep at.all. its brutal, he's been up since 8am, our night was rough too, he didn't go down till after 9 (usual 7pm bedtime) and was up 4 or 5 times with a cough and just crying. He's also not really eating well. He has only nursed once since 8am, he did eat his regular 2 solid meals tho. Does this sound like a teeting concern or should i be more worried that its the cold? He had a slight fever last night of 100 but nothing since.

Re: teething or a cold?

  • It sound like he might have a cold.  But, then again, every baby's different, so I wouldn't rule it out.

My DS broke his first two teeth a few days ago and has been fussy on and off during the night but has been sleeping through the night most nights.

He's been nursing alright.  Keep taking his temp just to be sure and call the pedi for reassurance.

Go with your mother's intuition!!  It's always right!!  GL!!

  • Sounds like teething to me, but as pp said, every baby is different.  When DS cut his first teeth, he had a clear runny nose and a cough that I could tell was just from the extra saliva.  When he had a cold, it was a gross yellow runny nose and his cough sounded different - much more like he was congested.
