Babies: 9 - 12 Months

when can/did you give cheerios?

Some of my friends asked if I've given them to her yet. I haven't b/c she has no teeth. They said she can gum them....still make me nervous.

  • After he mastered the Gerber Puffs.  And the first time I tried Cheerios, he wasn't ready (gagged and up it came).  I tried again a week later and he was good to go.

  • I first gave DD cheerios last week. She doesn't have any teeth but she does fine gumming them. She was really good at eating puffs so I just gave her a few to try and she did great with them.
  • with DS1, we started with Puffs at 6.5mo (the totally melt in your mouth).  And cheerios around 7.5mo.

I just started giving DS2 cheerios yesterday and he does okay with them.  He does gum them but he hasn't quite figured out the chewing motion.

I'd start with puffs if you are nervous.  They don't need teeth to start on things like puffs/cheerios.

  • We started cheerios when she seemed to have the hang of puffs!

  • We started Cherios at 6 1/2 months.  DD hasn't ever had puffs, but has enjoyed the cherios.  She doesn't have any teeth, but gums them just fine.
  • DD never liked the puffs, so I gave her cheerios instead. I think I started giving them to her around 7 mo. but they only started making it to her mouth around 9 mo.
