DS is a horrible napper and always has been. Today he is fighting a cold and really needs the sleep. I have tried to lay him down twice and he has woken up coughing up snot (even while elevated and with a humidifier on).

I love these two beautiful children!
My LO is going through this too...5 min after falling asleep shes up coughing. yesterday I tried some benedryl and she sleep for 3 hours! Longest nap ever...and she didnt cough once.
When he won't go in his crib... I just rock him and hold him. Especially if he's sick. I play video games or watch a movie. It's lazy, but I'm okay with that if he needs the sleep.
When in real need of a nap, it is always a car ride for us. It usually takes less than 7 minutes, then I drive back home and read a book.
Good idea. I hate taking car rides (although they work instantly!) because I hate using the gas and wandering around. I get bored (but if it works it works!). I should make some hot cocoa, bring a book and find a nice spot to stop awhile. Although it's so cold Ill have to keep the car going.
Thanks ladies!

Car ride for sure. Warm up the car and he'll probably fall asleep. He'll be sitting bascially upright so it will give him the chance to drain some of the fluids that have him congested.
I had to do this a month ago. I drove around for awhile to make sure he was really asleep then headed home. I put a blanket on him and kept the car warm and he slept for 2 hours wihch he needed so bad. Just bring a good book, find a drive-thur Starbucks and kick back for awhile.
And try to remind yourself that days this bad sleep-wise are hopefully few and far between and in a few days he'll start sleeping again... if not great, at least better. It's so hard to remember that when you've had no sleep yourself!

But I know not all kids will sleep like that.
