Graco, Maxi-Cosi, or Per Perego infant car seat?

These are the three I am helping a friend choose between.  Any recommendations?

Re: Graco, Maxi-Cosi, or Per Perego infant car seat?

  • I am not a fan of Graco - no real reason.

I love Pegs but they tend to get really hot - so, I am hoping the new 100% cotton seats just introduced this year will help this problem.  They can also be difficult to get in and out of the base.

Maxi Cosi is my favorite but, my stroller (UppaBaby Vista) won't take it so, it is out.

Is there any reason why she isn't looking at Chiccos?  They are on my list as well.

My sister had a Peg and a Chicco and she preferred the Chicco.

  • I chose the Graco based on price (cheapest out of your choices), weight (I found it lighter than most others in the store), and safety ratings.  I really couldn't see spending more than 100 dollars on a carseat I'll use for such a short time, especially when the cheaper brand is just as safe.

I am also not using the carseat with a stroller, but that seems to factor largely into the choice for most moms I think.

  • I have a infant Graco and have had no problems with it and I really like it.  It is very easy to get in and out of the car.  I agree with the previous poster---they are just as safe why spend the money when you can save it for other 'extras'.
  • We chose Graco because of cost, compatability with other products, safety ratings and reviews. Just something to think about, you only use them for 6-12 months and second bases are $40 - Chicco ones are $70 or more. This seat also fits nicely in our BOB Revolution stroller - we decided not to go with a travel system. I think it's the best choice!
  • She was given a Bugaboo stroller.  I found this site this morning that also ranks them based on the chemicals such as lead and bromine off-gassing.  Based on those results, the Graco would win.

It would be great if the less expensive option is indeed the safest in crash tests and chemical off-gassing.  Here is to hoping.

  • We're planning on buying the UPPAbaby Vista...so are debating between Peg Perego and Chicco...

Chicco has a deeper bucket seat so might last a little longer (as baby grows lentghwise) compared to Peg. We live in the city so I want the Peg because of the built in head support.  I just don't feel it's the same by adding an insert. Also Peg is about 2 lbs heavier to carry than the Chicco.  I better start lifting weights now :)

  • We're still trying to decide. I'm having a hard time finding a pattern in the graco that I like. I like the Peg perego but  it's heavy and seems to get poor reviews from that aspect. Also, the extra bases for the Peg are around $100 which is another factor to consider.
We haven't looked into the maxi-cosi so I can't comment on that one.

  • I chose Graco based on price and weight. The Chicco's were nice, but noticeably heavier than Graco.
  • We chose the Graco set.  We are getting the Metro-Lite travel system with the Snug Ride car seat.  The stroller is so much lighter than most of the other strollers we found.  The car seat is very nice and well priced.  Baby Bargains rates it very high as far as safety goes.  I agree with most of the other ladies on here...why pay so much more when it's just as reliable and safe as seats that are way more expensive?

  • I'd go with Graco. I heard Pegs can be really difficult to get in and out of the bases.

  • I have a Peg Perego stroller and still chose a snugride because it is lightweight, safe, fits my peg perego stroller and fair price

  • Well, we're going with a Chicco.  It's top rated with consumer reports and we LOVED the way it felt in the store.  Easy to snap in and out of the base, and it just felt sturdy and like it had a lot of protection for the baby.  It is heavier than the gracos.  I know those are popular and fairly well rated too, they just seemed kind of cheap when it was sitting next to the chicco - just my opinion.  The Peg Perego looked well made and safe too, but like it would be harder to use and I don't think it will fit in my VW.
  • We chose the Maxi cosi, mostly because it is the car seat that our stroller, Quinny buzz, accepts.  They're the most popular car seat in Europe and have great safety ratings.
