Baby Carriers for older babies

I'm trying to work out the logistics in my head for the cruise and I keep having flashbacks of pushing a stroller on the beach on our Cali trip. Does anyone have a good carrier for older babies? I think Justin weighs around 25lbs and is in a major "up, up" stage where he loves to be held- which is getting hard b/c he's more than 1/2 my height now.

Here are a few things to consider...(or tell me it's just a bad idea)

It's going to be in the mid-high 80's- so HOT

I can't spend like $200, lol

It needs to fit in a suitcase

Thanks girls!

Re: Baby Carriers for older babies

  • You can borrow my Ergo carrier if you want. It is all soft so definitely would be easy to pack. Zoey wasn't quite 25 lbs when we used it last, but definitely over 20 lbs and DH and I hiked through Letchworth with her in it and it worked great. If you want to try it out and see if you think it would work for you, let me know and i will bring it on thurs.

  • I was going to suggest an Ergo, but I totally recommend trying it first.  We went out and bought one for G when we were planning to go to many state parks with my parents.  It's very comfortable for me, but he absolutely hated being in it.  We saved it so I can start using it earlier for the next baby and hope that one is more willing to get in it.

  • We really like our Kelty framed backpack carrier.  I couldn't imagine carrying more than 20 pounds on my front for more than a half hour.  Tyler loved his kelty backpack and would actually sleep in it, even last summer at 2yrs, while we were hiking.  Because it is a frame, it wont fit in a backpack.  But I called the airline when we went to Fl and they said it could count as a stroller.  It also has its own backback on it which is nice so we don't have to carry a separate bag.
  • When's your trip? Before May right?

You can borrow my Pikkolo if you want, its similar to an Ergo.

I wore C in it this fall, while pg, and he's 30lb. I actually took a 3 mile hike with him in it!

  • Thanks, you girls are the best!

Amy, I might take you up on the Ergo :) Is it easy to clean? I just want to make sure I can get it back to you in tip top shape aka no sand.

Kim- I really appreciate the offer but I was a little intimidated by the instructions on the website. I SUCK at getting carriers on.

We've never had to clean it, but I think that you could spot clean it pretty easily, or hand wash it in the sink.  I will bring it on Thursday and you can see what you think.  :)

We had a lovely diaper poop blowout and I just threw it right in the washing machine - cold water and dried it in the dryer on the low setting.  Everything looks good!
