If you use(d) the Mini-pill...

Did you have any side-effects?  Also, how long did you continue to use a back up with it?  I've read one month and up to 3 months.  I am trying to decide if I want to start it or just wait a few more months until I wean DD to just use regular BCP again.

Long shot, but if you also take Synthroid (thyroid problems) did you have any issues with your levels in correlation with the mini-pill. TIA (and yes, I plan to talk w/ my Dr first)

  • I was only on it for about a month. It made my supply tank, so I ditched it.

I also didn't trust it. You have to take it at EXACTLY the same time every day.

I think REOMs Emi was a minipill baby.

  • I used it twice - after both of the boys until I was done BF-ing them.  I didn't have any noticeable side effects and we didn't use any back up methods (are you supposed to??, lol).  You do have to take it at the same time every day so I had a daily alarm set on my phone and kept the pills in my purse so that whenever the alarm went off, I could take the pill even if I wasn't at home.  I didn't want to take the risk of forgetting, etc.

I'm having an IUD put it this time around.  DD was an oopsie but it was right after I stopped nursing and taking the mini pill - was about to go back on regular bcp.  I wanted something that was a little more effective :)

  • I took it after my second daughter was born.  I didn't have any issues with my supply.  I never used a back up, but I didn't get my AF until she was 11 months old.

  • I used it for over a year while I bf my dd for 13 months and had no supply issues. However, if I didn't take it at the exact same time each day I would spot! It is slightly less affective than the reg bc pill so make sure you take it at the same time each day.
  • I took it for 2.5 years after DS was born. I was bf'ing exclusively so my Dr said that that was good enough back up for the first couple of months. I never had any problems with it and didn't get pg until I stopped taking it. I also take synthroid and never had any problems. i was told by an aquantence that it was better to take them at opposite times during the day, but I could never remember to do that, so I stopped even trying. I don't thing they interfered at all for me.

  • I used it from 6 weeks until I stopped nursing.  I only used back up for a couple weeks with it.  I loved it, had no side effects (and I'm miserable on regular birth control).  I did switch back to the regular pill when I started weaning though.

This is what I'm afraid of, all of it!  I don't think I'd trust using it solo so what's the point. Ugh, I hate making BC choices!

Oh, and I have an Emi too!

  • I did after DS, no problems with supply and I never took it at the same time every day but it worked for me!
