Cameras that are in between a regular p&s and a DSLR?

Does anyone have one of these hybrid cameras? Like the Canon 5s Is, for example.

I asked about them on the photography board, and got some good feedback.  But I'm also wondering if any of you have experience taking pictures of your toddlers with one of these "in between" cameras.  If so, do you like it? Are you happy with the pictures you get? Any negatives in regards to photographing a toddler?

I have the Canon s3is. LOVE it. I've had it since Sept 2006. The settings are really fun to play with.

How did you go about learning about your camera?  I have the 10is, which I love, but if I fiddle with it, the pics get grainy.  I tried to follow the manual, but I'm still so clueless.

I have a sony cyber shot... its nice enough, but I really want to learn it... the manual was POINTLESS...

I personally don't have one, put I do have friends who are professional photog's who HIGHLY recommend the s5. We still ended up going with a full-fleged DSLR, but we already had a bunch of lenses for it.
