transitioning to big car seat

We got a britax marathon from my cousin in great condition and just a year old. We started using it this weekend. DD hates it. Whenever we put her in it she screams. She never had a problem with the infant seat. She seems to calm down a few minutes after we get moving. Any suggestions on how to make the transition easier on her? Anyone elses DC not like the big car seat? TIA.

Re: transitioning to big car seat

  • How's the incline? Is she reclined too far back? DD likes sitting up straight so she can see out the window.

  • DH hated his carrier and he hates his carseat.  I can't figure out how to get him to not scream in the car.  I feel your pain.

  • My DD screams in the carseat 90% of the time, and she actually does BETTER in her convertible. No advice, just commiseration!

This is what I was thinking too.  Alternately, if it's too straight, she might prefer more of a reclined seat, since that would be more like the infant seat.

  • DD was the opposite.  Hated the infant seat with a passion!!  But liked the convertable after about a week.  The best things we found were giving her toys that were just in the car so they were "new" to her and the absolute best was when we purchased two Veggie Tales CD's.  I'm sure any 'kids' music would work.  i can now sing both of those cd's for your from beginning to end without the music and probably in my sleep, but it is better than the screaming.  It was almost like magic...  Good luck.  I feel your pain.

The car seat is fully reclined. I figured it would be more like the infant seat that way. We will just have to wait and see if she adjusts to it. Thanks for the tips and advice.
