Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Normally this wouldn't bother me.

Especially since she refered to an inanimate object. Yet it still did.

As I was putting my cart back at Target today a mother, who was older than me by about 10 yrs said to her daughter, who was around 10 or so, "Take her cart. Its obviously not retarded if she was just using it." I just sort of stopped & looked at her. I was a bit taken back by it. She than laughed.

Normally I'm not that sensitive to things like that. Especially since she was talking about an object not a person. Just bothered me since she used it so flippantly in front of her daughter like that.

I'm over it. Just sharing is all.

  • That's a really strange way to refer to a shopping cart.  Although, now that I think about it, I would probably call a defective cart "gimpy" and that's probably not much better....Embarrassed

  • it would bother me, but I am sensitive to when people use any type of term like that to describe things or people (that's gay, that's retarded, etc..).. I should probably try to let it roll over me a bit more.
If I heard it in front of a child, I'd be even more taken aback for sure.

Ditto this. That would have bothered me, too.
