My girls had their developmental testing on Thursday...we were going to cancel b/c we're going to have to pay a TON, but decided that we'd rather just go and see what they had to say. I'm so glad we went! While it was long and trying for both of the girls, it was a great experience, especially to note the differences as well as stregths and weaknesses in my girls. With them being twins, sometimes I just think the other is being overbearing or shy.
BOTH girls are on track for their actual age, and in some categories they were scoring at 21+ months, very very cool. I was shocked. Seriously, I feel that they have grown so much since they started going to daycare! Olivia scored a little lower than Sydney, but the tester did note in her notes that that Olivia was struggling a bit with stranger anxiety.
They gave us some additional tips to help with weight gain b/c they both STILL weigh under 20 pounds. But weren't terribly worried since they are still growing in height and head circumferance.
We don't EVER have to go back, unless we need them, and the head of our NICU asked if we were going to have any more kids b/c " you make cute, smart babies and I like to encourage people like you to have more kids"! It was sweet, but I told him, the jury was still out on that one. He did remind me that IF we decide to have more kiddos to make sure I see my perinatologist and OB before trying (DUH). We did get the lecture about how the girls aren't as fragile as they were last winter and that we needed to start taking them places for a little more germ exposure, but I told him that daycare was doing a great job of that!
Overall a great experience, but I have to admit that I cried all the way home, it was very overwhelming to be BACK at Children's HOspital. I so hope I can avoid ever having to go there! He did remind me that they continue to adjust for prematurity up until their 2nd birthday.
