Spitting up while breathing in and choking...

Does this happen to anyone's LO?  DS doesn't spit up alot, maybe once or twice a day and just a small amount dribbles out.  But it always seems to happen when he is on his back for a diaper change, either crying or taking a breath in.  He then gets this look of panic on his face and starts choking...like he can't get any air in.

It's heartbreaking because he looks so scared.  I immediately put him upright and pat his back and he cries.  It makes me worry about it happening when I'm not in the room.  He doesn't always burp...wonder if that is the problem?  Anyone else that this has happened to?

  • My LO does this, but it's because of his reflux. It is very scary, especially at night when he sleeps. I would consider keeping your baby upright for at least 15 minutes after eating and if you use a paci, let him suck on that after feeding so that he swallows all the milk that he could be holding in his mouth or the back of their throat. This has helped with us.

  • I agree with PP.  DD also has reflux and she would choke when I laid her down after feeding.  We keep her upright for at least 15 min after she's done and it has helped a ton.
