Question about powdered formula.

We just started using powdered formula.

When we mix it, I shake it very very well but it's still powdery. If I tip her bottle, I see bits of powder running back down the sides of the bottle along with the liquid if that makes sense.

We have stirred and mixed it likecrazy and it still does this. Is that normal??

Re: Question about powdered formula.

  • I used similac, and it seemed to mix a lot better than goodstart or generic. is that what you're using?

  • Hi Love!

We occasionally use Similac and I've never had that problem.  We use the playtex Ventaire when we do formula.

    What bottle are you using?

  • My ready to feed does the same thing, I think it must be normal.
  • We were using Similac liquid concentrate, but just switched to the Costco Kirkland brand formula as it's much MUCH more affordable. She likes it ok, but it's so powdery in the bottle.

  • I make my own "concentrate" for this very reason. Well, that and avoiding the foam that the shaking creates.

Instead of 1 scoop to 2 oz's of water. I make 1:1 with boiling water, I use a tiny whisk to mix it - then put it in the fridge. When I need to make a bottle I use 1/2 "concentrate" and 1/2 hot water to get the right ratio and temp.  It's been a real blessing for us.  And we reap the benefits of the cheaper powder.
