How many oz are you freezing?

I'm trying to stock up for when I go back to work - how many oz should I put in each bag?

I have no idea how many oz he'll be eating in a month when I go back, plus that will probably change as he gets older/bigger, right?  Now I'd est he eats 5oz at a feeding (he weighs 14lbs+).

So far I've got a range of 4-7oz in each bag.

Re: How many oz are you freezing?

  • Lately its been 5-6 in each bag since I figure he'll be eating 5oz when I go back to work.  I have a few bags of 2-4oz from earlier.

  • To stay consistant, I usually freeze 4 oz per bag. As he gets bigger, I may start putting 6 oz in a bag.
  • I EP'd for my first son for 13 months and found that freezing in 4oz increments worked best for us.  I am EBF DS #2 and am freezing 4oz at a time again any extra pumped milk.
  • I usually pump between 6.5-8.5 oz.  So, I store 5 oz in one bag and the rest--1.5-3.5 oz--in a second bag.
  • i have bags of 4 oz and bags of 2 oz....have not used any of it yet but hoping it works for me.  I figured I would generally be taking out bags for the day not one specific feeding...so we'll see:-)
  • I plan to unfreeze the full amount for the next day so I freeze 5 ounce bags and have a few 1-2 ounce bags available. That way if DS needs 18 ounces one week and 20 ounces the next I'm not having to think too hard to plan for the right amount. I also plan on leaving a few 1-2 ounce bags at daycare for when he needs a little extra.
