I can't comment on the Nook but I can highly recommend the Kindle. Both my mom and I have one and absolutely love them. We are able to share books through my amazon account.
I love my nook. I've only had it for about a week or so, but I love it. I haven't had any issues with it, and I've only charged it the once when I took it out of it's packaging.
The biggest selling point for me was the ability to lend books. It's limited and kinda crappy how it works, but it's a start, and it's more than any other ereader offers.
The page turning can be a little slow (I tend to notice this for the first few page turns after it either powers on or wakes up), but it's never anything so slow that it bothers me.
The nook uses both wifi and 3G, so I can connect to the store wherever I am.
I also like that I can add a larger SD card to increase the memory. I can't imagine I'll ever fill the nook with all ebooks, but it will be a nice option for adding MP3s if I want to. It also has a user replaceable battery, which I believe is not true for the Kindle.
I don't think you can go wrong with either one. It came down to a few key features that swayed me to the Nook, but I also really liked the Kindle too.
