Does your LO nap when they are sick?

DD usually takes a nap from 11am-1pm (she only takes one nap a day). Well, she's really sick and the nap today was a huge fail. I know she's exhausted though so I just put her back in her crib hoping she'll go to sleep. She cried for a couple min and is now playing and talking to herself. Does your LO still nap when they are sick? Should I keep trying to get her to sleep or give up? I even laid down with her earlier and it didn't work. :(

Re: Does your LO nap when they are sick?

  • She usually naps an extra hour when she's sick.  So 3 hours instead of 2.  But sometimes getting her down is tricky because, like you said, she gets overtired and too cranky to sleep.  I usually will pick her up for another half hour, do really mild-mannered stuff with her, then try to ease her back to sleep.

    Good luck!

  • When lo has a cold, his naps and sleep in general are awful.  He had the stomach flu once and he slept like crazy, I was scared.
  • NO! DS has a really bad cold this week and his sleep has gone down the toilet. Usually naps 2.5hr daily and so far he has been waking up after 30min all week--naps AND night. Frustrating.
  • Yes she acts relieved to be laid down for a nap when she is sick.  Right now she has a nasty hacking cough and is very happy for extra sleep.
