? for milwaukee moms who know about labor laws

On friday my boss pulled me into his office at the beginning of my shift and told me "we are going in a different direction so we no longer need you".  First of i was shocked because i have never done anything wrong and have never had a write up.  I am curious if any of you know if this is legal or not or where I can go to find it out.  Thanks for helping me out.

  • This is not legal advice.

However, Wisconsin is an at will employment state.  You can be fired for any reason or no reason, as long as it's not a discriminatory reason (i.e., due to gender, race, pregnancy, etc.).  It sounds like your position was eliminated.  I doubt you have any legal recourse.

  • thanks for the help. just same added info my position was not eliminated since i was the full time night bartender.  i know i was not under contract it just didnt seem right for what the company did.  the unemployment office actually laughed at the reason i was given for being fired
