A four year old girl died this weekend and her 15month old sister is in critical condition.
On Friday, her family hired an exterminator to get rid of a rodent problem. They put rat killer outside.
On Friday night their carbon monoxide detector went off but the fire department came and said there were no signs of carbon monoxide in the house and allowed the family back in.
Sat: the dad and 4 kids are sick, vomiting, they think it's food poisoning.
Sat night: the four year old died.
They are saying it is chemical exposure from the type of rat poisoning that was used. From the news, it wasn't something the company did wrong in using but other companies reported they wouldn't use it because there are safer options. They are not sure how it "leaked" into the house.
They are waiting toxicology reports to confirm.
They do not know if the younger sister is going to make it.
It's just so sad when something so tragic and preventable happens
Re: Toddler related sad local news story.
oh man, when we lived in the city two buildings down from us used to have a serious rat infestation. it was TERRIBLE - like so terrible i would walk around the entire block coming home from the train to avoid walking passed it at night b/c at least 2-3 rats would jump out ::shudder::
and i agree - if something is that toxic it absolutely should NOT be used. period.
