I don't think I will go through the process of interviewing. I am going to get recommendations from friends and do some research. My doctor also told me he could recommend some in my area.
I'm going off of recommendations from co-workers - they have all recommended the same place. The practice has 8 doctors. We are going to meet with one of them next week to ask more questions about the practice itself. I figured if everyone one I asked recommended the same place it must be pretty good!
We started with family recommendations then contacted each office with a general list of questions. I like to get a feel for the office staff as you deal with them as often if not more than the actual doctor. I didn't see a need to meet with anyone in the practice in person.
Honestly, I am just going to go with the pedi in my neighborhood. If I end up not liking him, then I will switch, but I don't feel particularly compelled to go around interviewing doctors.
I got a recommendation from my OBGYN. I like him a lot so I figured I'd like whoever he recommended. I was going to interview him just to make sure we clicked but when I called his office they said if I just had a few questions I could ask him over the phone (avoiding a co-pay for an office visit). I ended up having something I wanted him to take a look at so I just made myself a visit and asked my questions then.
We interviewed a pediatrician at the office where our family doc is at. We already had an idea of who we wanted to go with based off of recs. but I wanted to meet her and make sure I was comfortable with her. We have the same philosophies on breast feeding, shots exc so that just sealed the deal for us.
As the office is the same one we currently use I was already familiar with their billing policy, office hours exc.
We received reccomendations from my OB/GYN and I then chose to interview the one that my Dr.'s medical assistant personally recommended. ( i really like my dr.'s medical assistant)
Im just going on recommendations, but its my brother's kids ped. She has taken care of my nieces and nephew and was the doctor that was with my niece when they found her leukemia and she passed. I am happy to be with someone that knows the family history!
All that said... I myself had a bad experience with a pediatriction when I was a child. I think its important to be comfortable with your dr. so if you dont get recommendations or your not sure that the person recommending would feel the same as you, I think meeting with the doctor is a good idea.... just so you are sure you will have a bond with them. Just my opinion!!
