Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

I'm failing on the Mom front

Posted on 6-12, but no answer. I think I scared some of the newer moms. I'm what people don't want to become.

1. Quinn watches TV (thanks to my mom and my DH) for at least two hours a day.2. She goes to sleep at 9:30 p.m. thanks to the fact she still sleeps with us and keeps later hours.3. I don't have a clue as to what to feed her half the time and fall back on the leftover Earth's Best Stage 2 foods.

WTF?!?!?! I feel like the only things I'm doing right are reading to Quinn for at least an hour a day (half an hour in the morning, half an hour at night) and breastfeeding. Oh, and love. Lots of that and diaper changes.

  • DS used to go to bed that late until around a year, when we stopped doing the semi-cosleeping thing and got him sleep-trained to his own crib.  Life is much better now.

As for food - here is a link I've saved to some great meal ideas for toddlers.  The second or third response has links to even more posts along the same idea.

What's up with her watching TV specifically "thanks to mom & DH"?

  • My kids watch TV too. Even though I would rather they not watch so much, there is only so much whining I can take. If they don't stay up till at least 8, they don't STTN. Hang in there, no one is perfect and getting lots of love is the most important part.
  • You're not alone, I feel like I'm failing on a daily basis. But, DH assures me I'm doing just fine, and DS loves me so I must be doing something right. haha

Does she actually "watch" tv or is it just on?
At that age, DS loved mashed potatoes and it was relatively easy for him to "feed" himself, if you don't mind cleaning up a mess afterwards. I tended to just feed DS whatever we were having for dinner that night instead of trying to figure something out with jarred food. A friend of mine has one of those Bullet things and blends her baby's food up in that so it's the right consistency for him to eat with only a few teeth. You could try something similar if you don't want to do jarred food any longer.

The watching TV thing is because she wakes my DH up who immediately switches on Sesame Street. That's not too bad except that when he comes home the tube goes on and stays on from 6 p.m. until we go to bed.

My mom has begun letting TV help babysit because "Quinn loves the cartoons"! ARGH! Anyway, I posted about that below and have a few good ideas on how to curb it.

Thanks for the advice and link. I really needed this!

You are doing great :) LOVE is all you really need to give to your kids.  My kid watches tv all the time and she has like 60 words, loves to be read to, and is very active, so whatever the research is against kids and tv, I don't get it! We put dd to sleep at 900 or 930 too, and I never know what to feed her.  I just try to get protein, some grains, fruit, and veggies in one form or another every day.  But it doesn't happen every day!

  • 1. eh tv is not going to rot the brain!!

    2. ds goes to bed at 9 but in HIS crib!! he wrestles lions in his sleep soo it is better for everyone! I second the ferber ASAP!

    3. DS loved any fruit at that age... just start experimenting!! (that is the fun part) Green beans were a fav too!

She is getting love, diaper changes, and food you are doing great!!

Aww, that was me!  <3  I'm so glad I was finally helpful for someone... *sigh*

And OP: my kid/s watch 1-2 hours each day too.  I keep it to Sesame Street, Super Why and Signing Time usually - they learn so much from it, who cares?
