Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Moms of 2: How different are your LOs, really?

I really can't imagine that another boy will be all that different from Jack. It seems like #2 will be just a little clone - the same features, the same personality, the same likes and dislikes. But moms are always saying how they're each so different... really? Especially if they're the same gender?

So if you have two, how were the same? How were they different? Sleeping, eating, personality, physically... etc.

  • We have 2 boys and they are just over 4 years apart.

Our youngest is a total mini of our oldest.

  • totally. they are not even the same at ALL personality wise.

sleeping - aidan was an angel from month 1. always STTN. sawyer woke up 1-2x a night for a lonnnnng time, but thats bc she was a worse teether. :(

eating - sawyer eats everything. aidan eats nothing.

personality - aidan is a ham. if someone waved, she'd put on a show. smiles. laughs, waves, etc. sawyer has always been a judger - she will look at you and think "wtf should i smile at you" then the *second* you turn around she'll giggle and wave. (now she is more outgoing though). aidan is sensitive. if a kid looks at her mean or says something rude, she breaks down. actually completely hurt. you have to be careful on how you say things bc she is not crying out of being a "brat" or wanting something, but truly emotionally her feelings are hurt. sawyer is tougher. she fake cries sometimes, but usually its just like "ahhh hell nevermind". LOL little things dont bother her like they do aidan.

physically - pretty similar. sawyer is more lanky though.

all in all i expected an aidan twin as well. but i found out from minute ONE how different they were. (aidan didnt even cry when she was born. she said "ehhh" and then gave us "oh. you." faces. sawyer screamed)

  • My kids are night and day. They don't even look alike. Personality wise, they couldn't be any different. Clay is the happiest, most sociable, most easy-going kid in the universe. Finn has always been a lot more challenging. As a baby Finn was sensitive to loud noises, new people, new environments. A bomb could go off next to Clay and he'd just look at it interestedly, and he'll go to anyone anywhere. Finn has always been an ideal sleeper. Clay still cries briefly whenever I put him down. Finn eats anything. Clay would be picky if I let him. Finn looks like his dad. Clay looks like me. I could go on and on.
  • personality wise they are actually really similar: easy, happy, STTN early (6ish weeks, maybe?), very adaptable, etc.

DS never sucked his thumb, but would take any bink you gave him.  DD would much rather suck her thumb, and will only take one specific type of bink occasionally.  DS is DH's clone, and DD supposedly looks more like me (although looking at old pics of DS, i can see the resemblence there as well).  i think DD started giggling way earlier than DS (around 3 months as opposed to 4.5).  DS cut his first teeth at 4 months, DD is still all gums at 5 months.

  • I can't wait to see how different (or similar) this next one is going to be!  /random input :)

No really, all of the nephews/nieces on my DH's side look completely different (there are 6, 3 from each sibling), and their personalities are all totally different too. I'm kind of eager to see what it'll be like!

  • I dont really see why you'd expect them to be exactly the same? Do you have siblings? Are you just like them? I'm the oldest of 4 girls (and 1 boy) and we're all quite different and always have been. As for mine, one has a vagina and the other has a penis. That's pretty different LOL!!! But truly, they're very different in terms of temperament and personality but sometimes they're so similar it's scary.

  • Well, our two are opposite genders, but they are completely different.

DS is back, quiet, sensitive, slower to warm up to most people, but happy, kind of peaceful. He was just a really easy, calm child. He has dark features: dark brown hair & eyes, olive skin. He's the world's pickiest eater, and slept through the night on his own at 7 weeks old, without ever having another problem.

DD is very intense, animated, stubborn, smart as heck, hot tempered. She is definitely my little spit-fire girl. She is kind of pale, with blond hair & blue eyes. She eats everything in site, and still wakes up at least once a night, although she can usually put herself back to sleep. We go in with her 3x a week maybe.

Even my pregnancies with them were totally different. The only thing they really have in common is that they were both born at the exact same gestation (36w4d) on Thursday evenings. Other than that, polar opposites.
