3rd Trimester

Should I get some ensure?

I've been sick since thursday night and haven't ate a real meal since then.

I haven't lost any weight (well, I lost two pounds on Saturday, but I'm back where I started today).

I couldn't eat dinner last night and tried to eat breakfast this mornign and had to throw it away.

I see my OB tomorrow.

Should I get some ensure or something else to sip on tonight?

Re: Should I get some ensure?

  • A stomach virus....

I would just try to do like mashed banana, crackers, rice, applesauce, toast.  The Brat diet.  Little one should be ok.  I am not sure if Ensure is ok with all the vitamins...may want to ask OB.

Thanks. I'm not thinking too clearly this morning. That's a good idea.

Yeah..it's the worst stomach virus I've ever had. It feels more like the flu, but I don't have any congestion.

  • Clear liquids and dry crackers would probably be easier on your system if you've been sick to your stomach.  Think chicken broth and saltines, etc.  If you've had "The Big D", then try to replace some electrolytes -- pedialyte or gatorade would help with that.  Your nourishment would be a lot more complete with chicken soup and some carbs than with ensure, and less likely to make you feel nauseous.
  • I've been drinking Ensure/Carnation Breakfast/Ovaltine my whole pregnancy in an attempt to get my weight up at the advice of my doc--totally safe.

But for you, I'd just keep things really bland right now.  The milk in the Ensure might throw you completely down a hill.  The BRAT diet is great for stomach upset, as a previous poster said--bananas, rice, apples, toast.  Start there.  If you're still sick in a week, and losing weight, ask your doc for more suggestions.

  • Feel better quick.  I fear that bug!

Be super careful and wash your hands often. Whatever it is is VERY contaigeous even without a fever.

My poor husband has it too, but thankfully he didn't get the stomach part. Instead he got congestion/sore throat.

  • is it the throwing up one, or both ends.  Ugh.  I hate winter bugs.

Both... but not much. Like once or twice a day, which I can deal with. I think someone would have to shoot me if it were constant.

I'm over that part now though. Hallelujah! Well, I think I am anyway..ha

  • Good, well feel better, both you and the hubby!
